My name is Fatima. I am a birth companion, childbirth educator, homemaker, and aspiring lifelong طالبة علم.
My work, reflections, and teachings on pregnancy and birth are rooted in tawheed, traditional pregnancy and birth wisdom, attachment to Allah alone, the Prophetic Medicine, nutrutring and cultivating the heart, and natural healing.
I believe tawheed is the true foundation of birth preparation for a Muslimah. Before we ask what decisions we should make, what means we should take, or what path we should follow, we must first ask: Who is Allah? What do we know about His Names and Attributes? Where is our heart attached? What are we truly relying upon? What is the state of our heart? The human heart was created to attach, but it was created to attach first and foremost to its Creator. The people and means Allah places in our lives are blessings, signs, and sources of benefit, but they were never meant to replace Him.
This is why I believe pregnancy and birth are opportunities for deep عبودية. They expose our need for Allah. They teach us humility, patience, surrender, gratitude, and trust. They invite us to seek knowledge, take beneficial means, and make wise decisions, while knowing true sakinah comes from Allah alone and our reliance upon Him.
A Muslimah’s relationship with pregnancy and birth is transformed when she understands that Allah is Al-Khaaliq, The Creator, Al-Hakeem, The Most Wise, Al-Lateef, The Most Gentle, and Al-Wakeel, The One upon whom we place our trust.
My work is built upon four foundations:
ʿIlm — knowing what is true.
Tawheed — orienting the heart toward Allah alone.
Tawakkul — relying upon Allah while taking the means.
Tazkiyah — purifying the self and correcting the heart.
I believe this is where the role of a birth companion becomes so meaningful.
A companion is not someone who replaces a woman’s responsibility. A companion does not make decisions for her, carry her accountability, or become the source of her confidence and security. Rather, a companion walks alongside her, offering knowledge, reflection, support, and presence while reminding her of what is most important.
The Prophet ï·º emphasized the importance of righteous companionship and the effect that those around us have on our hearts and our path. Good companionship does not mean someone walks the journey for us. It means we walk alongside those who help us remember Allah, seek what is good, and remain oriented toward truth.
This is the heart behind my work as Sunnah Birth Guide. I do not seek to become the authority over a woman’s pregnancy or birth. My role is not to replace her discernment. My role is to accompany you as you seek knowledge, deepen your understanding, examine your convictions, and approach pregnancy and birth with greater clarity, sincerity, and reliance upon Allah.
I believe many women have become disconnected from the fitrah Allah placed within them through fear-based conditioning, loss of trust, over-medicalization, and a culture that teaches women to view their bodies and their experiences primarily through fear, surveillance, and control. I believe modern maternity culture often removes the humanity, intimacy, and spiritual depth from pregnancy and birth by reducing them to risk management, protocols, and external measurements.
I believe pregnancy and birth are deeply physiological, emotional, spiritual, and transformative experiences that unfold best in environments of safety, privacy, calmness, trust, and support. I believe a woman’s home is the place where she worships Allah best, finds tranquility, and where birth can unfold with dignity, intimacy, and respect for the process Allah created.
My work centers around helping Muslimaat return to a more fitrah-centered understanding of pregnancy and birth rooted in tawheed, patience, gratitude, knowledge, and trust in Allah.
I support women in exploring the physiology of birth, the importance of the birth environment, nourishment during pregnancy, emotional and spiritual preparation, decision-making, and the responsibility of taking beneficial means while leaving outcomes to Allah.
I speak openly about homebirth, freebirth, self-directed pregnancy, and stepping outside of fear-driven narratives surrounding birth and motherhood. My deepest concern is the state of her heart as she walks through this experience, because birth is ultimately an opportunity for عبودية. Every part of it can bring a woman nearer to Allah: the vulnerability, the uncertainty, the waiting, the patience, the pain, the surrender, the gratitude, the overwhelming love when she finally meets her child, and even the moments she did not expect.
Nothing unfolds outside of Allah’s wisdom, mercy, decree, and perfect knowledge. Whether a birth is peaceful and joyful or difficult and humbling, Allah is still teaching the heart through it. His Names and Attributes are reflected in every experience when we approach it with mindfulness, reflection, and submission.
I also believe there is something profoundly special about preserving the awe, mystery, and wonder of pregnancy. Modern culture often approaches pregnancy through constant scanning, testing, predicting, categorizing, and attempting to control every unknown. Yet for generations of women before us, pregnancy carried an element of mystery. Women waited, they wondered, they trusted, and the birth itself was the unveiling.
There is something deeply moving about carrying a child for months without fully knowing who Allah has entrusted to you until the moment you meet them. There is something beautiful about recognizing that a baby is not simply a product of human planning, but a creation of Allah’s perfect wisdom and decree That awe matters to me deeply, and that is why I love to work with sisters who share this same sentiment - and who desire that for themselves.
