بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Welcome beloved sister!

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

My name is Fatima, also known as @sunnahbirthguide.

I am a childbirth educator, birth keeper, traditional birth attendant, and birth coach/mentor.

I support Muslim women in giving birth outside of the medical system and teach the importance of physiological birth.

I created this private community to support Muslim women who want to give birth at home and/or gain more knowledge of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period. My mission is to show you that birth is safe, simple, and sacred.

I felt that creating a private space became a necessity, not only for myself but for other Muslim women. We live in a world today where there are many mixed opinions about pregnancy and birth, and it is hard to find real answers to many of the concerns and questions women have today. Traditional knowledge has been lost or is in the process of being lost. Everywhere you turn, there are so many conflicting answers. It is impossible to know what is “right” anymore. Women don’t trust themselves as intelligent or capable enough to make judgment calls and decisions for themselves or their babies. The opinion of family members, in-laws, and doctors overshadow the innate knowledge women already possess of how to birth and how to be a mother. Of course, some learning is required, but this comes naturally for the most part. The way a woman may want to give birth and care for her children is heavily influenced by the opinion and perception of her family and culture she lives in. In the social media atmosphere, speaking the truth is met with a lot of hostility and talking about natural birth has become something controversial. I feel strongly that women deserve a private, safe space to turn to when the noise of the world becomes too much and she is just looking for sisterly support and birth education. That is not to say that I am an infallible source of knowledge but I do my best to share what is true and evidence-based.

My intentions for this community are:

- To teach you the importance of physiological birth, and what I know about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period from what I have learned as a birth worker & from my studies.

- To simplify pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period for you, so we can focus on the most essential requirements and necessities to support physiological birth.

- To abide by the Qur’an and Sunnah above all else, as closely as possible, in shaa Allah.

- To unpack the harmful consequences of over-medicalized pregnancy and birth, and the harms it has on mothers and babies.

- To deepen our understanding of pregnancy and birth as a spiritual, physiological, non-medical event.

- To create a community of like-minded sisters who share the same beliefs about pregnancy and birth.

My Beliefs and Teachings about Pregnancy and Birth:

- Birth is an ordinary, but beautiful and very significant for both mother and baby. The choices we make in pregnancy affect our birth, and our birth sets the foundation for our breastfeeding & postpartum.

- Giving birth and breastfeeding are simple, and we are designed by Allah to do it. Western medicine and the medicalization of childbirth has made it a complicated and scary process.

- Pregnancy is one of the most powerful and extraordinary ways a woman can learn to submit and surrender to Allah and embrace the mystery and wisdom of Qadr.

- Pregnancy and birth are both spiritual and physiological normal processes that don’t require medical intervention. Allah prepared women physiologically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually to give birth.

- Support and assistance of a trusted sister throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is desired among many women today and has been part of traditional birth practices for thousands of years.

- Deeping our understanding of pregnancy and birth deepens our love, fear, and trust in Allah SWT.
