VBAC with Tawakkul

VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) is an issue that is close to my heart as a Muslimah.

The reason being is that, the majority of Muslim women today are giving birth in the hospital- and within that, there is also an overwhelmingly large percentage of these sisters who have had one or multiple C-sections. Most women who reach out to me have had 1 or multiple cesareans and are desperate for answers on how to have a natural birth.

It goes without saying that this is incredibly concerning. May Allah rectify the affairs of the Muslims.

The Cesarean section is truly a calamity in this regard, because most often, it is not done for a genuine necessity or true benefit, but it is done for other reasons, and we will dive very deeply into that in this course, bi’ithnillah.

And I want to begin by saying: I am genuinely amazed by women who are planning their homebirth VBACs or freebirth VBACs, because it takes real courage. It takes determination. It takes a willingness to face a very painful truth: that what was done to you in your first birth may have been totally unnecessary and for many women, that is most often the case. It also requires so much courage and inner strength to handle the noise that comes with making this decision for yourself. Often, the hardest part is dealing with the criticisms and discouragement from family members and friends.

Or, to recognize something else that can also be true: that yes, during your first birth you may have required surgery… but that is not your only story. And that experience does not need to define who you are, or define your future for your next birth.

And yes, you can still have a spontaneous, physiological vaginal birth, even after cesarean. And yes, you can still have that birth at home.

I have personally worked with sisters who have had homebirth VBACs. I know of many women who have freebirthed after cesarean.

If you are a Muslim woman carrying disappointment, grief, fear, shame, or confusion after a surgical birth, I want you to know that you’re not alone in that at all. And by you being here, and investing in yourself, you’ve already taken the biggest step on this path.

Many of the fears surrounding VBAC are not simply based upon your individual body or your individual pregnancy. They are rooted in a much larger cultural paradigm that increasingly views physiological birth itself as inherently risky and surgery as inherently safer.

You are living in a generation where cesarean birth has become so normalized that many women cannot even imagine birth outside of intervention.

And yet despite this normalization, your body has not forgotten how to give birth.

Your body still carries the same innate physiological design Allah created within women from the beginning.

There are genuine emergencies where cesarean can be life saving and beneficial. However majority are not. But understanding the history of how cesareans became normalized helps you step outside the modern conditioning that automatically frames surgery as the superior, safer, or more civilized form of birth.

In this self-paced course, I will teach you what you really need to know about natural birth.

I will show you the way I personally navigate through my own pregnancy - without relying on technology or doctors or diagnoses.

I will give you the tools to unpack your own birth, by telling you the real story of why C-sections have become “just another way to give birth”, and why they are performed so regularly without a justifiable reason, and the true history of the medical obstetric system, and the spell it casts on our minds and hearts.

I will provide you with beneficial reminders from the trustworthy scholars, and heart softening guidance from the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah, so you can truly prepare for birth with the right foundations: a heart attached to Allah alone, upon tawheed, knowledge, and a heart that is content.

Ultimately, nothing in this course is a replacement for actual medical treatment or medical advice, and I am not a replacement for a medical provider. I cannot tell you what you should do or not, I can only share my thoughts, opinions, knowledge, and personal experiences related to pregnancy and birth, and I can help you challenge the underlying beliefs and assumptions you may be holding about pregnancy and birth, to see them in a new light, and to step into what truly feels aligned and harmonious for you going forward.

The goal is truly for you to step into your most responsible self, to take full ownership of your pregnancy and birth, and to implement the right methods of care in your pregnancy that align with your vision of an undisturbed, natural VBAC.
